St. Stephen, first martyr, church in Qus 
 

The church is located east of Qus, Qena Governorate, and is the only Orthodox church in it.   

It was built in the 11th century and was reconstructed several times the latest of which was at the hand of H.G. Bishop Biemen.  It was consecrated by H. H. Pope Tawadros II on Thursday, January 14th, 2016. 

The church includes:  

A basement that has a theatre for activities. 

St. Mary the Virgin church on the first floor which has three altars: 

The main altar in the name of the Virgin Mary. 

The northern altar in the name of Archangel Raphael (and currently contains the relics of the first martyr Stephen). 

 The southern altar in the name of Archangel Michael and Saint Verena. 

St. Stephen (First Martyr) church which is the main church and is located on the second floor and has in addition to the nave a two storey mezzanine.  The church has seven altars: 

The main altar in the name of the first martyr, Stephen. 

The northern alter in the name of the great martyr St. Mina the miraculous. 

 The southern altar in the name of the great martyr, Saint George. 

An altar in the name of St. Mark who brought Christianity to Egypt is located on the northern side of the first floor of the mezzanine. 

An altar in the name of the St. Mercurious Abu Sefin is located on the southern side of the first floor of the mezzanine. 

An altar in the name of St. Anthony and St. Paul is located on the northern side of the second floor of the mezzanine. 

An altar in the name of St. Abraam, Bishop of Fayoum, and Abouna Mikhail El-Behairy is located on the southern side of the second floor of the mezzanine. 

This is in addition to an altar in the name of Pope Kyrillos VI and the chaste martyr Barbara in one of the buildings attached to the church, bringing the total number of church altars to eleven.
