It was founded in 1902 during the reign of Anba Lucas, Metropolitan of Qena, at the hands of the late father Yohanna Estefanos Bedar and it was renovated in the pontificate of the late Bishop Makaious, Bishop of Qena, Naqada and Qus, at the hands of Father Hanna Semaan Bedar. 

It has been rebuilt by H.G. Bishop Biemen, Bishop of Naqada and Qus, on a much larger area of 1200 square meters to become a large Cathedral.
